Our Story

Clocktology is built on a passion that began more than 20 years ago.

More than two decades ago, my dad—lovingly known as Geppetto—discovered a passion for vintage cuckoo clocks and set out to learn everything he could about bringing them back to life. He became a self-taught clock repairman through patience, perseverance, and countless hours of hands-on experience. Every clock became another lesson, adding to the knowledge and craftsmanship he carries today.

Now, he’s passing that knowledge on to me.

Clocktology was created so that everything he has learned over the past 20 years doesn’t end with one generation. Together, we’re preserving a piece of clockmaking history by carefully restoring vintage cuckoo clocks, seeking out unusual and hard-to-find pieces, and helping these treasured timepieces find new homes where they can be enjoyed for generations.

What began at a repair bench has grown into something much bigger: an ever-growing collection built around craftsmanship, history, and the belief that these clocks deserve more than to be forgotten in an attic or tucked away in a box.

This holiday season marks an exciting new chapter for Clocktology. More than 200 cuckoo clocks will come together at our Black Forest Christmas Village inside Silver Lake Mall in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho—giving visitors the opportunity to experience the magic of these remarkable clocks all in one place.

To us, every clock tells a story. Every restoration preserves a piece of history. And every lesson my dad shares helps keep this remarkable tradition ticking for another generation.

The Story Behind the Cuckoo Clock

The cuckoo clock is one of the world's most recognizable timepieces, with its origins tracing back to the picturesque villages of Germany's Black Forest during the mid-1700s. Surrounded by dense forests, skilled craftsmen used the region's abundant timber to create beautifully carved wooden clocks that combined precision, artistry, and imagination. While the exact inventor remains a topic of historical debate, the Black Forest quickly became the heart of cuckoo clock making, and its artisans earned a reputation for producing some of the finest handcrafted clocks in the world.

Over the centuries, cuckoo clocks evolved from simple wooden timekeepers into intricate works of art. Traditional chalet-style clocks depict charming scenes of alpine life, while carved designs feature detailed leaves, wildlife, and hunting motifs inspired by the beauty of the Black Forest. Many mechanical clocks include moving dancers, waterwheels, wood choppers, and musical movements that come to life each hour, making every clock as entertaining as it is functional.

Today, authentic German Black Forest cuckoo clocks are still handcrafted using many of the same techniques passed down through generations. They remain symbols of exceptional craftsmanship, family tradition, and timeless design. At Clocktology, we believe every cuckoo clock has a story worth preserving. We carefully select authentic Black Forest clocks, including vintage treasures, rare new-old-stock finds, and select new timepieces from respected German makers. Each clock is carefully inspected and prepared before being offered for sale, allowing its craftsmanship and story to continue in a new home for generations to come.
